Nourishing Families: Diverse Ways to Increase Fruit & Vegetable Consumption

Description: Extensive research reveals a pressing issue: a considerable 81% of individuals aged 2 and above in the United States fall short of the recommended fruit intake, while a staggering 90% fail to meet vegetable requirements. Adding to this concern, studies indicate that the consumption of fruits and vegetables remains stagnant during elementary school years and barely exceeds 1 cup/day in adulthood. This trend persists consistently, as the prevalence of food-insecure households remains steady year after year, affecting 1 in 10 U.S. households. During this session, Clancy Harrison, registered dietitian and the founder of the Food Dignity Movement, will decode these nutritional gaps and debunk misconceptions about affordability. Her discussion will highlight how 100% juice and other affordable forms of fruits and vegetables can significantly enhance family meals without straining budgets. Then hear from Alex Turnball, RD, and founder of The Family Nutritionist, who will explore the intricate relationship between diet and overall well-being. Her focus on children's nutrition and picky eating will unveil innovative strategies to effortlessly incorporate more fruits and vegetables into family diets, thus promoting health and overall well-being. Through this session, our speakers will provide invaluable perspectives and actionable strategies to drive positive transformations in families’ diverse nutritional challenges. Attendees will depart with practical, budget-friendly insights, arming them with the means to empower families to enhance their nutrition intake.
